Innovation

Throughout the past 30 years, NRT has developed dozens of technologies and advances for use in Near Infrared (NIR), X-ray and Color Line-Scan Camera, and Electromagnetic sorting applications and systems. Today, NRT owns or is the exclusive licensee of 29 U.S. patents and five foreign patents covering these disciplines, with others pending. Utilizing top-of-the-line technology and components, our equipment features scan rates of up to 10,000 scans-per-second and boasts industry leading capture rates.

Best-in-class technology has been NRT’s core competency since inception. Throughout the years, NRT has been supported in the development of these new technologies by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy, where the company pioneered technology that is used throughout the world.

Today, NRT has the manufacturing expertise to apply its highly sophisticated technology for 24/7 operation in rugged applications such as Materials Recovery Facilities (MRFs), Plastics Recovery Facilities (PRFs), and electronic scrap and mineral sorting environments.  Recently NRT developed the world’s fastest X-ray fluorescence (XRF) sensing system for identifying and sorting shredded scrap metal and nonferrous alloys on fast moving conveying systems in sub-second time frames. Our In-Flight Sorting® technology and full array of spectrometers provides industry leading purity and hit rates, thanks in part to PET Boost® and transmissive detection.

Our detection technology has been developed throughout the years, and our team recently unveiled NRT Connect™, a faster and smarter system to connect you to your equipment.

NRT Connect™

NRT Connect is a faster and smarter system to connect you to your equipment.

NRT Connect helps our customers reduce downtime and increase performance. Here’s how:

  • NRT and our customers receive performance alerts immediately and can make adjustments to keep your operations efficient
  • Tracking your performance and material composition trends over time gives you the information you need to make smart operational decisions, including:
    • Staffing
    • Process flow
    • Capital equipment needs
    • Monitor other equipment – For example, NRT Connect lets you know immediately if air pressure is too low
    • Have replacements on-hand when key wear parts are approaching end-of-life
    • Information to guide your maintenance, service and optimization strategy

PET Boost™

NRT’s patent-pending PET Boost™, only available on the SpydIR® range of bottle sorters, improves detection of thin-wall PET, wet PET and full-sleeved PET by using proprietary algorithms to boost weaker detection signals.

FIRST TO FLIGHT: IN-FLIGHT SORTING®

NRT invented In-Flight Sorting® technology more than 20 years ago, installing the patented technology in the first optical unit in 1995. Our transmissive detection technology produces the highest signal strength and recovery rates. Visit our microsite below to learn more.
